Transgender student runs for prom king
FRESNO, Calif. - When school officials announce the name of the Fresno High School prom king on Saturday, Cinthia Covarrubias will be wearing a tuxedo just like the six boys vying for the honor. Administrators agreed to reverse a district protocol this week that limited males to compete for the title after Covarrubias was nominated by her classmates.Gay youth advocates called it a landmark victory for campus gender expression and said they believe it‘s the first time in the U.S. that an openly transgender student has run for prom royalty.
Covarrubias, who wears black-and-white Vans, baggy shorts and close-cropped brown hair, sometimes identifies herself as Tony. Her date, a close female friend, plans to wear a black dress and red corsage to the prom at an outdoor reception hall surrounded by man-made waterfalls.
"We always want to do the right thing by our students," Vice Principal Sheila Uriarte said. "This is why we came to this decision."
"It‘s not like the stereotype where the king has to be a jock and he‘s there with the cheerleaders anymore," said Reyes, a senior. "We live in a generation now where dudes are chicks and chicks are dudes."
"I like lesbians, but they shouldn‘t be allowed to run for king," said senior Erich Logan, 18, as he stood outside the stately high school building.
"My freshman year I just started feeling different," she said. "When I decided to change to be like this, all of a sudden I said, ‘Wow, I feel OK. I feel like finally I‘m being me.‘"
Tiffani Sanchez, a science teacher who advises the school‘s Gay-Straight Alliance, said the decision would foster understanding of the broad spectrum of gender identities.
Covarrubias is giddily looking forward to the prom, but acknowledged being a little nervous.
"I‘m happy I actually made a difference about changing the law and the policy so you can run for your choice," Covarrubias said.

Tommy snubbed!
Tom Cruise is still smarting from the snub New York Mayor Bloomberg gave him when the mayor declined to honor Cruise for his contributions to what is called the New York Rescue Workers Detoxification Project. 780 ailing Trade Center rescue workers have already undergone the "purification" treatment that involves megadoses of vitamins and hours in the sauna. The "Project" is a front for Scientology and the mayor felt they had nothing to do with legitimate science. Tom was in New York Thursday for a fund raiser for this group and tickets sold for $6,250 apiece. Just WHO attended the benefit is not known yet, because press was not invited. (We're guessing wealthy Scientologists.) But the city of New York supposedly donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to the organization before they realized what it was. Neither the NYPD or the FDNY supports the group but Tom insists his organization has proved that "recovery for the afflicted Ground Zero workers is possible." And recruitment to Scientology is possible too! SourceWestboro Baptists Cancel Virginia Tech Protests
After a massive outcry against their insistence to protest—or preach, as they called it—at the funerals of this week's tragic Virginia Tech massacre, the Westboro Baptist Church has called things off. Not out of sympathy for the victims or anything, but because radio jock Mike Gallagher offered to give the Church an open mic during the time slot usually occupied by his radio show.Gallagher made a similar offer to the Westboro Baptists in the wake of the Amish school shootings in Pennsylvania last year—an offer the WBC similarly accepted.
God may hate fags, but he sure loves attention, doesn't he?

LiLi just loves this chick.

"Oh, shut the fuck up! Are you kidding me? My God, I don't even watch television. I don't like television. I never have liked it. The whole concept of sitting down in front of a TV feels like one of the things that's destroying society, as far as I'm concerned." – Gillian Anderson to the London Telegraph when asked if she'd ever return to series TV.
International Study Shows Widespread Dislike For Gay Neighbors
(New York City) An international study of attitudes towards gays shows large number of people still do not want gay neighbors.
People in Northern Ireland showed the most distain for having a gay neighbor. Thirty-six percent of those questioned said they did not want a gay or lesbian living next door.
The study, "Love Thy Neighbor: How Much Bigotry is there is Western Countries", was co-authored by Prof. Vani Borooah of the University of Ulster and Prof. John Mangan, a professor of economics at the University of Queensland in Australia.
It was based on statistics from the Human Beliefs and Values Survey, conducted in 24 Western countries between 1999 and 2002.
In Italy opposition to gay neighbors stood at nearly 29 percent, despite a recent separate poll that showed a majority of Italians believe same-sex couples should have domestic partner benefits.
The disparity between the two sets of numbers shows that people tend to support gay rights in the abstract but not are not as supportive when confronted in their own neighborhoods.
The research focused primarily on Europe and Australia. In the Republic of Ireland, 27 percent said they did not want a gay neighbor. In Austria and Greece it was 26 percent.
Nearly 25 percent of Australians do not want want gays living next door.
Overall the most welcoming country was Sweden where six per cent said they would object to having gay neighbors.

Blind Item
Which "American Idol" hottie was observed entering a bathroom stall with four guy friends at an L.A. nightspot Saturday night? Maybe they were having a meeting of the No Girls Allowed club.
